In a physical shop, you can explain a product and answer questions. Online, your product description has to do that job. It does not need to be long. It needs to be clear, honest and helpful.
1. Write a clear product title
Say what the product is, with the most useful detail. "Cotton Kurti with Block Print, Blue" is better than "Beautiful Kurti". Clear titles also help buyers find your products in your store search and on Google.
2. Lead with the main benefit
Start with one or two sentences on why someone would want it. Is it comfortable for daily wear? Fresh and homemade? Long-lasting? Tell the buyer what it does for them, not just what it is.
3. List the key details
- Size, dimensions or weight.
- Material, ingredients or what is included.
- Colour and variants available.
- Care, storage or usage instructions.
- Shelf life for food products.
Short bullet points are easier to read on a phone than long paragraphs.
4. Use simple, honest language
Write the way you speak to customers. Avoid exaggeration and never promise what the product cannot do. Honest descriptions lead to happy buyers and fewer returns.
5. Answer common questions
Look at the questions customers ask you on WhatsApp and answer them in the description. If people often ask whether a dress fits a certain size, add a size guide.
6. Pair words with great photos
Descriptions and photos work together. Read our tips on taking product photos with your phone, then share everything as a branded PDF with the catalog maker.
