How to Price Your Products for Online Selling

Price too low and you work hard for no profit. Price too high and buyers go elsewhere. A simple method helps you find a price that is fair to customers and to you.

How to Price Your Products for Online Selling

Many new sellers copy a competitor's price or guess. That often leads to selling at a loss once delivery, packaging and discounts are counted. Use these steps to set prices with confidence.

1. Count every cost

Your product cost is more than what you paid for it. List everything that goes into one order:

  • Cost of making or buying the product.
  • Packaging: box, tape, labels, thank-you card.
  • Delivery cost, if you do not charge it separately.
  • Payment charges for online payments.
  • A share of monthly costs such as your store plan, phone and internet.

2. Add a healthy margin

Your margin is what pays you and funds growth. Add it on top of total cost, not just the product cost. Handmade and unique products can usually carry higher margins than everyday items that buyers can compare easily.

3. Plan for discounts before you need them

If you plan to run festive sales, launch coupons or wholesale rates, build room for them into your price. A discount that wipes out your margin is not a good deal for your business.

4. Decide how to handle delivery

You can include delivery in the price, charge it at checkout, or offer free delivery above an order value. Free delivery above a minimum order is popular because it raises the average order. With GoSeller you can set delivery charges by zone and restrict delivery by pincode.

5. Check the market, then position yourself

Look at what similar products sell for. You do not have to be the cheapest. If your quality, photos, packaging or service are better, explain it clearly in your product description and price accordingly.

6. Review prices regularly

Costs change. Review your prices every few months and when supplier rates change. Update your store once and your catalog link stays current for everyone.

Add up the product cost, packaging, delivery, payment charges and a share of monthly costs, then add your profit margin on top of that total.

Free delivery above a minimum order value is a popular choice. It encourages bigger orders while keeping delivery costs under control.

Not necessarily. Buyers also value quality, trust, good photos and service. Price fairly and explain why your product is worth it.
